"Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) plans to lower the unit prices for Socket 754
Sempron processors in early May, with the maximum cut being 15%, according to
Taiwan motherboard makers. The price reduction for the entry-level K8-compatible
CPUs will help AMD with its plan to phase out its Socket-A processors by the end
of the third quarter, according to market sources."

The Hexus crew's got the dirt on the naming & speeds of the upcoming dual-core releases from AMD.
"The flagship AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ will have
both its cores operating at 2.4GHz, the same frequency as the AMD
Athlon 64 4000+, and we'll be surprised if this doesn't obliterate the
already impressive Pentium Extreme Edition 840 we reviewed here."
"Intel will move up the launch date of its dual-core series Pentium
Extreme Edition 840 CPU and 955X chipset to the middle of this month,
according to Taiwan motherboard makers. The dual-core products, which
are aimed at the high-end segment, were previously set to arrive by the
end of next month, said the makers."

Amazing what a lil' competition will do for your scheduled release dates,
ain't it? I just hope that a. it won't be a "paper launch," & b. it
won't affect the initial quality of the chips we'll see.
"AMD will announce at an event on April 21 in New York that the first
dual-core Opteron processors are available, months ahead of schedule,
sources familiar with the situation said. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based
chipmaker also is expected to announce its dual-core chips for personal
computers will go on sale in June."
