The TechReport crew are hard at work decoding the rating systems for today's CPUs so you don't have to. If you're like me & have no clue exactly what you're getting with your new proc in terms of cache or MHz without looking it up, this is a great reference to keep handy.

"We've just put the finishing touches on an update to our CPU Decoder Ring, the magical tool that will help explain the difference between an Athlon 64 3200+ and... the three other varieties of the same processor."

64bit battles abound

Couple of good articles circulating that are comparing Intel's newest P4 chips to the reigning A64/FX champs. This time, however, Intel's actually got its 64bit extensions enabled. Unfortunately, they don't seem to help chipzilla very much. If WinXP-64 is your thing, head on over to t-break & check out the comparison done over there. If running a *nix platform is more your style, check out the latest article at LinuxHardware, which pits the procs against each other on a Gentoo platform.
