AMD working on reverse multi-threading?
Written by t-readyroc
Tuesday, 18 April 2006

I saw a short post about this on Bit-Tech last night, & was very intrigued. I can tell you right now that every programmer on the planet is going to be frothing at the mouth at the possibilities...

"It's well known that two CPUs - whether two separate processors or two cores on the same die - don't generate, clock for clock, double the performance of a single CPU. However, by making the CPU once again appear as a single logical processor, AMD is claimed to believe it may be able to double the single-chip performance with a two-core chip or provide quadruple the performance with a quad-core processor.

The HardwareSecrets guys undressed an A64 & got some nudie pictures for your viewing pleasure. Sickos.

"Yesterday our socket 754 Athlon 64 3200+ burned and we decided to open it to take a look on how it looks like without its metallic cap. In fact it looks a lot like Athlon XP, but with a bigger die."

More CPUs added to HardwareSecrets database

The HardwareSecrets guys have been hard at work cataloging CPUs again. This time, they've written to say that they've got all of the Pentium D & Core Duo models added to their database. These articles contain core architecture information as well as tables that have common reference info such as model number, clock speed, & TDP.

ARM introduces first clock-less processor

Well, the industry has been going in this direction over the last few years, but I certainly didn't expect something like the ARM9 this soon. Very interesting.

"Although reduced power consumption, due to the lack of clock circuitry, is one benefit the clockless design also produces a low electromagnetic signature because of the diffuse nature of digital transitions within the chip."
