DDR2 & AM2 performance at TweakTown
Written by t-readyroc
Monday, 31 July 2006

The TweakTown crew pit an AM2 CPU against its regla-flava DDR cousin, & see just what, if any, benefit the addition of DDR2 brings to the table.

"AM2 is a new socket and hence it does add one new feature to the mix for AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Sempron based on this new socket - that being DDR-2 memory support."

Whopping AMD price cuts this month

Tuesday, 18 July 2006

In case you missed it yesterday, DailyTech got hold of a pricing sheet that shows the upcoming price changes for AMDs processors. The changes, which will occur on the 24th of this month, will effectively cut the price of many of AMDs chips in half, proving, yet again, that competition is a good thing.

"The upcoming July 24th, 2006 price cut is the only planned price cut for quite a while. There’s no word on other upcoming price cuts yet, though it wouldn’t be surprising to see AMD cut prices when Brisbane production ramps up."

RD600 for Conroe to sport third PCIe x16 slot

Monday, 10 July 2006

Looks like Conroe's going to be the first beneficiary of ATi's physics-on-a-card technology. The Inq is reporting that ATi's RD600 chipset for Conroe will support the necessary third PCIe x16 slot.

"It is an Intel-only chipset and there are no signs of an equivalent PCIe 16x3 chipset for AMD. ATI wants to focus on Intel and wants to be early on the Conroe bandwagon so it can make some extra money."

No K8L until 2008?
Written by treadyroc
Monday, 10 July 2006

DigiTimes says, don't hold your breath for the K8L's from AMD, because we likely won't be seeing them until 2008. Gonna be a long time for Intel to be in the driver's seat again... Not a whole lot of detail on the K8L after the link; just more about roadmap-related news.

"Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has recently indicated that its new K8L processor for its next-generation Socket AM3 platform will not be available until 2008, according to sources at Taiwan-based motherboard makers."
