Some AMD 45nm chips to arrive this quarter
Written by t-readyroc

There's been another leak of AMD desktop information from the usual motherboard manufacturer sources, & it looks like we'll be seeing some 45nm chips this quarter if all goes according to plan. I'm personally looking forward to seeing how the 95W chips perform.

"AMD is planning to launch two 45nm Phenom X4 CPUs (Deneb) in 2008 with core frequencies of between 2.5-2.8GHz and 2.4-2.7GHz, with both adopting 6MB L3 Cache and having a TDP rating of 95W, according to sources at motherboard makers."

nVidia's can of whoop-ass is on its way, in the form of the MCP79, a single-chip mobile chipset aimed at small form factor notebooks. Watching the nVidia/Intel spat unfold's gonna be mighty entertaining...

"Each variant of MCP79 incorporates a DX10-capable GeForce graphics controller supporting Shader Model 4.0, NVIDIA's VP3 video processor, and support for Hybrid Power/Hybrid SLI/Hybrid Performance."

No SLi for first-gen Nehalem

I find it very perplexing that the first generation of Nehalem won't support SLi, but will support CrossFire. Weird, but then nVidia did open the whoop-ass can, didn't they?

"If there is a mechanism for Intel to remove Nvidia from its chipset list for future products, this is highly likely to happen."

MSI has unveiled their AMD 780G-based motherboards, the K9A2GM/VM. Both sport AM2+ support and DDR21066.

"The motherboards' IGPs are based on AMD's Radeon HD 3200/3100 series supporting DirectX 10, dual displays, and DVI, HDMI, and VGA outputs."
