Dell recalls 4.1 million notebook batteries

I guess someone finally caught on to the fact that the batteries in Dell notebooks are a bit dangerous. I can't even imagine what's going on in IT departments of companies who outfit their employees exclusively with Dell laptops right now...

"Dell has issued a major recall of 4.1 million batteries manufactured by Sony. Under rare conditions these batteries can overheat and cause risk of fire."

What's with all the overheating/burning/exploding electronics these days, anyway? Don't the manufacturers have a list of specs to follow when they build these things? First there was the infamous hot Prescott, then we saw an exploding Dell laptop. The latest in the line of overheating electronics is Lexar, who are recalling any JumpDrives sold during the month of May at Fry's Electronics. I'm guessing that'd be no small number of JumpDrives...
 
Knock-off Plextor drives hawked on Chinese street corners

Add another category of merchandise that's being counterfeited in China to the list: DVD burners? Yes, Plextor burners are the best (imo), but do they really command enough brand recognition to counterfeit 'em? Stranger things have happened, I suppose...

"BenQ, Lite-On IT and other leading Taiwanese makers of DVD burners are closely monitoring the Taiwan market to prevent the inflow of phony products made in China, the sources noted."

 
Nuclear weapons employees identity theft

The fact that we're only just learning about this theft, which occurred eight months ago, makes ol' t-ready a lil' nervous... According to the article, they didn't get a whole lot of info, but still...

"Names, Social Security numbers, information where the employees worked, security clearance and birth dates were taken during the theft."
