And Now For Something Completely Different
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Sunday, 04 January 2004

Pfizer Corp. announced today that VIAGRA will soon be available in liquid form and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer.

It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one.

Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of "cocktails", "highballs" and just a good old fashioned "stiff drink".

Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: "MOUNT & DO."

Last year I wrote a "Geek's Night Before Christmas" and the response was very positive. Unfortunately, somehow, it got deleted, so I decided that I'd do a sequel this year.

PowerPoint Makes You Dumb, Says NASA
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Sunday, 14 December 2003

The NY Times (free registration required) is reporting that NASA noticed a reliance on PowerPoint to deliver information that has long been provided in written format.

"NASA, the board argued, had become too reliant on presenting complex information via PowerPoint, instead of by means of traditional ink-and-paper technical reports. When NASA engineers assessed possible wing damage during the mission, they presented the findings in a confusing PowerPoint slide -- so crammed with nested bullet points and irregular short forms that it was nearly impossible to untangle. ''It is easy to understand how a senior manager might read this PowerPoint slide and not realize that it addresses a life-threatening situation,'' the board sternly noted."

While the point is valid, the supporting reasons are a tad weak.  More to the point, NASA employees are going to pay dearly for someone really sucking at creating a presentation - PowerPoint or not.
