Happy Chinese New Year!
Wednesday, 21 January 2004
Just wanted to extend the greeting to all of our brethren across the seas as they get nice & soused & belt out their version of Auld Lang's Syne. Have one for me, guys. I wonder if the big companies over there (TSMC, UMC, ASUSTEK & all the rest) are open during New Years? Seeing as how it lasts a full six days, you figure they've gotta be open for some of 'em.... Anyone who knows, feel free to email me.

Trojan.Xombe Virus
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Saturday, 10 January 2004

There is a new trojan being spread through emails, please be careful not to open any unfamiliar emails. Read about it here.

"Dubbed Trojan.Xombe, as in zombie, by most security firms, the Trojan shares some characteristics of the Swen worm line in that it masquerades as a message from Microsoft and purports to carry a security update in its file attachment. However, unlike Swen, a worm that first appeared last September, Trojan.Xombe doesn't self-replicate."

Pigeons To Replace Internet?
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Saturday, 13 December 2003

This line says it all:

"They can transfer three gigs over 20km faster than the internet."

Depends on what you call "internet", because the area the pigeons are used doesn't even have phone lines to run over... and satellite would be both expensive and is still susceptible to line of sight.

All is not golden though - pigeons are susceptible to "packet" loss:

"Nesting karearea (native falcons) have attacked and killed some of the pigeons mid-flight."

New twist on Time To Live (TTL) setting of a packet... ;)

The brief article can be read here.
