ASUS announces upgradeable gaming notebook
Written by t-readyroc

ASUS has got a winner on their hands with the C90 gaming laptop. One of the main things keeping gamers from seeing laptops as a viable platform is the lack of upgradeable graphics. It's a shame that the MXM modules never took off, but there's apparently enough support around for a new model to hit retail. Should be interesting to see how sales of this thing go...

"The Santa Rosa-based notebook comes with a generous 1680x1050 screen resolution and supports Intel Core 2-based processors up to the range-topping Core 2 Extreme X6800 (2.93GHz). SATA HDDs are supported and the C90 can accommodate traditional DVD burners or next gen drives including HD DVD and Blu-ray."

Windows Home Server RC1 at OSNews

ODNews has posted a preview of Microsoft's Windows Home Server RC1 that was released this week. They describe Windows Home Server as a more robust software version of a NAS with a Windows Server 2003 SP2 backbone. I suppose it's more user-friendly than Win2K3 Server; else why would they even need it?

"WHS will be sold as an OEM release for hobbyists, but most people will buy Home Server as a complete hardware/software package."

The return of the Turbo button at TTZ

The TTZ crew got up-close & personal with MSI's GX600 notebook at Computex. The notebook has single-handedly revived a long-lost geek-cool gadget: the turbo button. At the press of a button, the system is overclocked by upping the FSB. Hit the link for photos & a video.

"The new MSI notebook features Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology based on the PM965+ICH8-M chipset, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 512MB of RAM, a 15.4" ACV widescreen display, 1.3M embedded webcam, independent numeric keypad, E-SATA support and of course, the Turbo button."

DDR2? Your board is so last year...

The LegitReviews crew have posted a little piece on something many of you out there will want to read to get ready for the next round of tech to hit us. Beginning with Intel's P35 boards arriving at the end of this month, & AMD's AM2+ boards hitting shelves later this summer, DDR3 is on the warpath. DDR2, we hardly knew ye.

"To hit 1600MHz a FSB of 400MHz needs to be reached, but that is not tough to do as it would be a mild overclock. DDR2 memory modules on the market right now have been topping off around ~1320MHz, so DDR3 is starting off at the upper limits of where DDR2 starts to become unstable."
