Intel rushing to implement NX bit - roadmaps a-plenty
Wednesday, 11 August 2004

Lots of good Intel news over at the Inq-well this morning. Remember, though, that at this point, it's all supposition ;)

"Intel appears confident that its Smithfield dual core chip will become available in mid-2005, this is for "creativity PCs" and "lifestyle PCs" as well as for the corporate marketplace, and will use the Glenwood and Lakeport chipsets. There are likely to be three SKUs (stock keeping units) using LGA 775 built on 90 nano technology."

Microsoft buying Network Associates?
Tuesday, 22 June 2004

Anybody else scared by this? I've seen the stories over the last week or so saying that MS was developing an anti-virus platform, but I didn't think this was the route they were taking. I know one thing, if it happens, I can totally see my anti-MS boss ditching our using McAfee as our sole anti-virus software...

"Supposedly, a public announcement about the sale, be it pending or closed, could arrive as soon as July 1 – the date when Network Associates is planning to announce lay-offs, say sources."

New PowerMac on the horizon?
Monday, 07 June 2004

Apparently there are photos of a new, yet-to-be-released PowerMac in a service manual floating around.

"The photos, which appear to show a heat sink covering dual G5 processors as well as a new memory configuration, were included in a manual that was sent out last month. News of the slip-up as well as photos from the manual were published this week on enthusiast site AppleInsider."

Next-gen iPod to play video as well?
Tuesday, 25 May 2004

Video iPod, 'eh? Hrmmm... I'm trying to think of how useful that would be... I'd think that anything you could watch vids on would have to have some sort of an OS behind it in order for it to be truly useful.

"Rumors have been circulating around for months now about a secret Video iPod that Apple has in the works. Most of the news coming out on the subject has been pure speculation by anonymous sources who claim to offer some tantalizing details. Truth be told, we know little to nothing about Apple's next-generation iPod."
