Featured PimpRig: Fantazmic2s Mini-Itx Project
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter
Monday, 07 April 2003

Ever wanted an interesting looking case that you can drag to LANs for your fellow gamers to ooh and ahh over? PimpRig just posted and interesting article doing just that. Making a Mini-ITX case out of acrylic. If you're into modding, this would indeed be for you.

"I decided that I wanted to create a Smoked Acrylic case, utilizing green Acrylic rods which would provide me with the uniqueness that I was looking for and enhance the look of the hardware by removing the casings to expose the insides."

Nvidia's next generation cards - the NV35
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter

Nvidia has announced and showcased their next interation of video cards, sites set squarely on ATI no doubt.

There are also some details on the specification of the new Nvidia product on a different site. German publication Chip.de manages to get not only details but also some performance figures. Among the more interesting of the specifications is that the site claims the card will use 500MHz DDR I, yes DDR I not II, but with a 256bit wide bus.

Details are sketchy, but the Inquirer does have an article and link to a picture, so there will be something coming out soon. I am definitely and entusiastically hoping that Nvidia does come out with a card soon that will blow ATI's socks off as I DO NOT want to see the gaming graphics technology slowing down or become stagnant. We are approaching photo-quality gaming little-by-little, which is undoubtedly what we (and the pr0n industry) are waiting for.

''Calling Dick Tracy, calling...''
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter

Wired ran a very interesting article a couple months back on a couple of wristwatch devices that will bring ever closer the gap between what was fiction, in Dick Tracy's 2-way radio, and what will be fact, in Fossil's Palm OS PDA watch and MS's 3G watch.

The Japanese, known for their innovation on lilliputan scales, will most likely be quicker on the scene with viable devices, such as the Wristomo. This from cnn.com:

Dubbed the "Wristomo," the watch opens up to become a phone, and users can talk while wearing it like Dick Tracy, the comic-book hero who debuted in the 1930's. The Wristomo, manufactured by Seiko Instruments, weighs 4 ounces including batteries. It also hooks up to DoCoMo's hit "i-mode" Web-surfing service.

Wired.com also has an article on the 3G wristwatch from Micro$oft.

I remember having a radio wristwatch from Sears that weighed about a pound that would tune in AM stations. I though it was the coolest thing, even though it didn't tell me the time.

Breathe in, Breathe out - kill the aliens!
Written by Benjamin A. Hunter

Breathe in to make the wings flap faster, breathe out to make it glide. That's what a few clever scientists are working on in the U.K. in developing a game which will enable people to relax.

Instead of using a joystick or mouse to control on-screen characters the game uses sensors stuck to a player's body. The sensors monitor breathing and only move characters on-screen if the player breathes in the right way.

I think that this is a great idea. You've seen all those meditation techniques which involve controlled breathing and visualization techniques. Could this be the Next Great Venture for computers? Will computers become the next barbells of our active life?

BBCnews has the article. Thanks to ipKonfig for the heads-up.
