Opportunity is on the move
Friday, 06 February 2004

The second Mars rover, Opportunity, is now officially on the move! It rolled off its landing pad yesterday, & moved about ten feet to test its driving capabilities.

"Just like you would want to perfect your parallel parking abilities before trying to make it to an appointment on a tight schedule in a big city, engineers tested Opportunity's ability to maneuver on Mars on sol 12, which ended Thursday."

Daily dose of Mars
Thursday, 05 February 2004
Both rovers are healthy & active today. Spirit is getting ready to grind into the rock, Adirondack, & Opportunity is preparing to stow its arm, & leave its landing pad. Both rovers are sending back images, but the ones from Opportunity are the coolest today. One, shown below is a microscopic shot of martian soil that shows tiny spherical pebbles. Another Opportunity image shows a mineral map of the surrounding area which displays levels of hematite nearby.

New iPAQ rumors confirmed
Thursday, 05 February 2004

Got a scoop from Maximum PDA this morning about the upcoming iPAQ model from Compaq. This lil' bad boy looks to be stuffed to the gills in the fashion of the Palm Tungsten series.

"The new iPAQ will be a 6300 series device, it will contain GSM/GPRS, it will be based of the 2215 form factor. We were not able to determine if it will have WiFi but it should maintain its Bluetooth functionality with the Widcom Bluetooth Stack."

ATi launches mobility 9700
Tuesday, 03 February 2004

Whooooooooaaa.... this is some insane stuff right here, folks. Imagine your laptop with a R300 graphics core in it.... yep, that's what I just said, read it again if you need to. This move by ATi will almost certainly corner the performance laptop graphics market. I'm sitting here writing this, & still shaking my head incredulously....

"ATI worked closely with TSMC, to develop and implement a low-k technology for the MOBILITY RADEON 9700. TSMC’s low-k technology reduces device capacitance at the interconnect level to enhance the performance of ATI’s proprietary technologies that are built into the MOBILITY RADEON 9700."
