CE-ATA examined at HardwareSecrets
Written by t-readyroc
Wednesday, 24 August 2005

The new CE-ATA standard is apparently being talked-up at IDF as well. The HardwareSecrets crew gives the un-informed among us a bit of background info on this upcoming hard drive standard aimed at consumer electronics devices.

"Right now the main standard available to this segment is CF+ (Compact Flash), which uses a 50-pin connector. Too many pins for a very small device – consumer electronics products use 1-inch hard drives! Also it uses 5 V signals, while everything else has already moved or is moving to 3.3 V signaling."

With the advent of mice, many of these keyboard shortcuts fell by the wayside. I know that sometime when I tell people to "ctrl + c" or "ctrl + v," I get a toe-headed look in return.

"Windows keyboard shortcuts are all intended to provide some sort of convenient alternative to common tasks, and whether specific combinations do so is up to the individual to decide. Some are simple time-saving motions, while others are complex maneuvers in finger gymnastics."

"Mashboxx and the other label-friendly companies--which include Napster creator Shawn Fanning among their executive ranks--hope to meld traditional file-swapping technology with copyright-friendly filters that will replace unauthorized downloads with copies of songs that must be purchased in order to be played."

If you're like me, & have no idea exactly what ASUS' PEG Link Mode does, then head on over to ARP, as I'm about to do, & read all about it.

"There have been hints that ASUS kept quiet about PEG Link Mode because they wanted to upstage their competitors by shipping motherboards that magically outdo their competitors. Of course, the secret was soon exposed and ASUS was literally forced to reveal the PEG Link Mode as one of their unique motherboard features."
