FreeGeek interview at Designtechnica

Designtechnica has posted an interview with a company that's doing some innovative things with computer recycling in the Portland, OR area. I know that our local landfill has just recently opened a section for computer recycling. Before that, we were taking our elderly PCs to a company like FreeGeek.

"Free Geek, a nonprofit company in Portland, Oregon takes unwanted computers and gizmos, rebuilds them and gives them away or breaks them down for proper recyclying."

Best Buy corporate shake-up followed XBOX fiasco

Apparently Best Buy did the right thing after the XBOX 360 bundling fiasco went down. Thanks to the Inq for the follow-up report.

"We are told a manager that started the procedure is no longer employed at Best Buy. At least one senior district manager is no longer employed, and some of the nailings are rumored to have gone even higher."

Corsair vs. OCZ in the heat spreader category

The Inq is talking about Corsair's ripping on OCZ for their heat spreader marketing. Corsair is publishing pdf's that knock OCZ's new heat spreader design, but all the tests really do is highlight the fact that the heat spreader really isn't worth all that much in the grand scheme of things.

"A Corsair XMS stamped aluminium heat spreader will overclock to 253 MHz PCB while OCZ "XTC" with its innovative mesh heat spreader overclocks to 253 MHz as well. If you don’t use any heat spreader you will be able to overclock the same modules to 250 MHz."
