GeekExtreme.com

After several months of debating, I've finally made the decision to sell GeekExtreme.com. I found, quite some time ago, that I do not have the time the to maintain the site, and our key contributor has also found himself in a similar situation. As much as it pains me, I'd rather sell the site and domain in hopes that someone will pick up the ball and run with it...
If you're interested and would like to make a reasonable offer, drop a line to gil [dot] rutkowski at flashingcursor [dot] com. I'll entertain all reasonable offers. That said, please do not email me with redicioulos offers. The site, even without any activity from my end, still receives hundreds of hits daily and produces a fairly healthy income.
Very best regards,
The GeekExtreme.com Management

T-Mobile ANDROID announcment imminent? |

According to Reuters, the first ANDROID announcements could be less than two weeks away. You know that the other major carriers can't let T-Mobile steal the spotlight, so if there is indeed an announcement on the 23rd, I can see others quickly following.
"Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile unit is set to start selling a mobile phone based on Google Inc's Android software within weeks, according to people familiar with the matter."

Five thousand 1-900-number calls. Five thousand. Bringing you to a grand total of 45,000 minutes. Wow.
"In his defence, Vaccarelli told WABC-TV New York that it was 'outrageous' to imagine he'd made so many calls."

Go get your name in that for the Resistance 2 beta if you're so inclined. Kotaku's reporting that you can sign up now on the game's official site, that spots are likely limited, & that you'd better act fast if you want in.
You can now apparently throw some christians into the mix of Spore-haters. Yep, DRM-haters are no longer alone in their quest, though the motives are clearly from different ends of the spectrum. |

It's only a rumor, but it certainly sounds credible to me. Game show-slash-reality TV at its best, folks.
"Centred around competition between bands of four, it'll give you the chance to not only get on TV and win the 'Ultimate Rock Band Experience...'"

DigiTimes has the full-coverage story. We'll see mid-range (4670/50), followed by entry-level (4550) cards from AMD this month, & they're still on track to get their first 45nm chips out the door before the end of the year. Fudzilla's got the english run-down on ASUS' 4670 offering plus a link to the original story which includes a photo. Non-reference cooling & HDMI in store. Graphics processing on the cheap, anyone? |

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin |

Monolith successfully regained control of the rights to the F.E.A.R. name, so Project Origin is now F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (like it should have been to start with).
"Why not drop the Project Origin name altogether? Well, for one, there has already been quite a bit of branding associated with that name, but more importantly, when Monolith lost the F.E.A.R. name it asked its community for suggestions to replace it. In a contest, Project Origin was chosen, and thus, the name has ties to the F.E.A.R. community."

In case you missed it, Intel's SSD hit the internets yesterday, & the reviews are all proclaiming it the best thing since sliced bread. Plenty of review-age to go around, so feel free to get your read on, but coming in at around $600 isn't going to get many people jumping on the buying bandwagon anytime soon.

TiVo has lifted the lid off of it's monster 150-hour HD unit, & it's sporting a Western Digital 1TB drive. Hit the link for plenty of photos, including internal shots.
"Hot on the heels of their renewed DirecTV relations, TiVo unveils a new stand-alone unit for cable (or OTA antenna) customers. The $600 TiVo HD XL will be available from TiVo.com today, followed by appearances at Amazon.com and Magnolia stores in the coming weeks."

More Chrome: EULA and features comparisons |

More Google! More Chrome! Holy crap can we get some more Google news here, please! Ugh.
This one's a bit interesting, though, because it seems that Ars actually read the fine print & called Google out on Chrome's EULA. Exclusive right to use all of your surfing traffic? Is anyone really surprised at this? A company that makes the majority of its money through advertising makes a web browser... Yeah, even if Google's now back-tracking on the EULA, I think I'll stay skeptical for now.
Hexus, on the other hand, is touting the "feature list" of another killer browser. They compare the memory footprint with ASCII bars. Classic.
Finally, Lifehacker points out that Chrome's best features can be added to Firefox via extensions. I figured as much. Extensions are, for me, the reason Firefox kicks so much a$$. |

I'm surprised I hadn't yet heard of noknownsurvivors.com, because I've watched all of the animated comics for the game so far, & am really looking forward to this game. I guess I missed it somewhere along the way, but at any rate, the site is huge, full of crazy animations, & looks like it will be interactive. Several of the terminals in the first two episodes require passwords. I haven't played around with it enough yet, but I'm sure I'll be re-visiting it as new episodes are released. Thanks to SG for the heads-up. |
