TiVo HD XL shows some terabyte love

TiVo has lifted the lid off of it’s monster 150-hour HD unit, & it’s sporting a Western Digital 1TB drive. Hit the link for plenty of photos, including internal shots.

"Hot on the heels of their renewed DirecTV relations, TiVo unveils a new stand-alone unit for cable (or OTA antenna) customers. The $600 TiVo HD XL will be available from TiVo.com today, followed by appearances at Amazon.com and Magnolia stores in the coming weeks."

More Chrome: EULA and features comparisons

More Google! More Chrome! Holy crap can we get some more Google news here, please! Ugh.

This one’s a bit interesting, though, because it seems that Ars actually read the fine print & called Google out on Chrome’s EULA. Exclusive right to use all of your surfing traffic? Is anyone really surprised at this? A company that makes the majority of its money through advertising makes a web browser… Yeah, even if Google’s now back-tracking on the EULA, I think I’ll stay skeptical for now.

Hexus, on the other hand, is touting the "feature list" of another killer browser. They compare the memory footprint with ASCII bars. Classic.

Finally, Lifehacker points out that Chrome’s best features can be added to Firefox via extensions. I figured as much. Extensions are, for me, the reason Firefox kicks so much a$$.

Dead Space: No Known Survivors

I’m surprised I hadn’t yet heard of noknownsurvivors.com, because I’ve watched all of the animated comics for the game so far, & am really looking forward to this game. I guess I missed it somewhere along the way, but at any rate, the site is huge, full of crazy animations, & looks like it will be interactive. Several of the terminals in the first two episodes require passwords. I haven’t played around with it enough yet, but I’m sure I’ll be re-visiting it as new episodes are released. Thanks to SG for the heads-up.

A couple of sites are covering AMD roadmap updates today. CHW goes into specific timeline details for Q4, showing a "~3.0GHz, 125W" chip under embargo until 1.8.09. ExpReview covers the chipset side of things, but only really re-hashes stuff we already knew, like the Rx8xx series chipsets rumbling along with the SB750 for the first quarter.

Finally, XBitLabs has a piece that talks about AMD’s "asset-smart" strategy being announced in two weeks’ time. That’s right around the 18th if you’re counting, kiddies. The pervasive belief is still that AMD will spin-off its fabs into a separate business unit. Not too long till we find out for sure.

The guys at the Reg have collected some of the more humorous takes on Google’s comic that introduced the features of their Chrome browser. I laughed.

Also, hidden amidst all the Chrome buzz yesterday was the beta release of Picasa 3, which includes, apparently, a "sync-to-web" button that allows uploading of full albums.

Finally, Google’s already ported Chrome to the ARM architecture, so that almost certainly means we’ll see it in ANDROID when it’s released.

A look at sub-£500 notebooks at Hexus

The guys at Hexus take a look at what you can get these days in the sub-£500 notebook market. There’s certainly plenty to choose from these days, so they also gear the article towards exactly how much you should pay for the features you want.

"The days of having to pay, say, £750 for a mid-range laptop are well and truly over, so how much will you get for a certain outlay, and what particular kind of laptop will that be?"
